When the lights go out in the city...

We survived the major Noreaster but with no power for five days!
I'll be posting on that separately today as it was a big adventure.
Here's a shot of one part of our neighborhood
to give you an idea of the severity of the storm:
And here's a quick bathroom photo update.
Not too much has changed but we've had lots of bad weather and cancellations.
We'll get there...

Progress woohoo!

Today Charlie's bathroom tile was installed. I cannot tell you how exciting this is for me! These shots are not exactly color accurate because of the time of day and flash, but you get the idea. The floor tile is from Lowes and was super inexpensive ($1 a square foot). The bath tile is you basic subway 3x6 in glossy white.

Pretty soon the dark cherry stained cabinetry and the oil rubbed bronze fixtures will be in place and the beadboard will be up on the walls and then my vision will hopefully come together and look pretty.

Our wonderful plumber is coming tomorrow to complete a bunch of work and then Monday the Marble guy is coming to lay the marble slab for my tub in the master. Woohoo for progress!

Bathroom Progress Report

What we initially thought would be completed by Christmas is a long way from being done! Here's what Charlie's bathroom looks like right now:
And here are some shots of the master:
A view of the shower with half wall
Soaker air-jet tub with heated backrest woohoo!
(she's not there permanently, but will be soon)
View from door way

On the docket this short holiday week are some plumbing and insulating.
Next week sheetrock and taping and then maybe tile after that?
The space is going to be tight with two sinks and vanities and medicine cabinets and a skinny linen closet tossed in there beside the tub, but we need to make the most of the square feet we have. Oh, and I am getting my wish (re: All I want for Christmas is a working toilet) just in time for my Mom to visit for Christmas!

Bathroom Cabinetry

For the master (picture this cabinet in creamy white):

and Charlie/Guest Bath (in a deeper mahogany finish):

Getting closer to choosing paint colors too.
I think BM's Bleeker Beige would pop against creamy white beadbord and dark wood cabinetry in Charlie's Bath.

The master is where I am having more issues. I'd like to do a lighter version of a muted blue in the bath and then go deeper in the bedroom. Just throwing a few colors out there, haven't really settled anywhere yet. I'm looking for something that will draw out the cool tones of the carrera marble.Wedgewood Gray for the bedroom?
Paint colors are not my forte' so any suggestions are more than welcome!

Chalkboard Love

A few months ago I tested out how easily the floral circa1975 wall paper would peel off the wall. Not so easy- it gripped on for dear life.

I regretted the impulsive action ever since. We won't be renovating the kitchen for another year (and that wall will be torn down in the process) so I needed a cheap, temporary fix/cover up. Enter the ever-handy chalkboard paint...
Before:
After:
I can't 'play' and draw on it for three days, but I'm looking forward to putting a chalk calendar up along with a grocery list and drawings for Charlie. Ahh, one less wall of ugly wall paper to fix my eyes on :o)

Now go visit the hooked on houses party and see what everyone else is loving this Friday.
